Nice looking, but doesnt work without mains electricity! |
Im currently using this drive with my Toshiba 3500. These are my experiences in the first week :-1) It looks great, it couldnt be much more compact! 2) I tried burning a CD-ROM at 24X speed it didnt work, there was a buffer-underrun. This is a bit dissappointing, as one of the key selling points of the drive was its extended buffer. The laptop runs at 1.3GHz, so this shouldnt be the cause. It burned a CD without a hitch at 8X speed. 3) You have to use a power-supply with this drive! Whats the point in a super-compact CD-Burner if you also have to carry a bunch of cables and a power-supply? Why cant it have its own internal battery or better still the option of drawing power from the laptop - via the USB port? In which case you would then only have to carry the laptops power-supply when travelling. 4)While Im on the subject of cables, does the USB cable have to be quite so short? By the time youve fitted the ferrite bead its probably shorter than a meter. Combined with the very short power-supply leads this means your laptop has to be sited near to the mains outlet, not always practical. On the whole a bit dissapointing, Im usually a great fan of Sony products, but not this time.

A year on and i still love it! |

I purchased my dvd751 unit almost a year ago and was amazed at its overall quality and great features. ive not had a days trouble, and even today the pictures and sound never fail to impress. The features are very usable, though some can seem pointless like the beep acoustical feedback which is better switched off. The preset and manual picture settings (saturation, contrast etc) are great as you dont need to adjust your tv when watching a dvd, and it can memorise your personal picture prefrences for different discs. overall it has impressive build, features, aesthetics and most importantly PERFORMANCE! highly recomended.
